Route 1: New ADHD Assessment
For patients who have not yet received a formal ADHD diagnosis and need a consultant-led assessment, diagnostic opinion and treatment recommendations.
View New Assessment JourneyHealth Private provides online ADHD assessment and post-diagnosis ADHD medication pathway support for adults and young people. Assessments are led by Dr Sammad T Hashmi, Consultant Psychiatrist, with clear diagnostic review, treatment recommendations and, where clinically appropriate, e-prescription through an online pharmacy service.
ADHD can affect attention, concentration, organisation, time management, impulsivity, emotional regulation, sleep, work, education, relationships and daily responsibilities. A structured psychiatric assessment can help clarify whether ADHD may be present, whether other mental health difficulties may also be contributing, and what treatment or support may be appropriate.
Diagnostic clarity: assessment of ADHD symptoms, developmental history, current functioning, co-existing mental health concerns and differential diagnosis.
Treatment planning: recommendations may include psychoeducation, medication discussion, follow-up review, lifestyle strategies, workplace or education support and onward care planning.
Medication pathway: where clinically appropriate, ADHD medication may be discussed, monitored and reviewed, with e-prescription through an online pharmacy service where suitable.
Some patients come to Health Private for a new ADHD assessment. Others already have an ADHD diagnosis from another provider and need a medication pathway, treatment review or support towards shared care.

View Post-Diagnosis JourneyThis route is for patients who are seeking a new ADHD assessment and diagnostic opinion. The process is structured to understand symptoms, history, functioning and possible next steps.
Send a short enquiry explaining who the assessment is for, the main ADHD-related concerns, age, urgency and whether any previous reports or records are available.
Health Private reviews the enquiry to consider whether online ADHD assessment is suitable and what information may be needed before appointment.
Where appropriate, ADHD questionnaires, rating scales or other screening tools may be requested. Developmental and collateral information may also be helpful.
Dr Hashmi completes a clinical assessment covering symptoms, developmental history, functioning, mental health history, medication history and diagnostic considerations.
The assessment findings are considered alongside clinical criteria, symptom impact, co-existing difficulties and alternative explanations.
Recommendations may include ADHD education, therapy or coaching suggestions, medication discussion, lifestyle strategies, workplace support or further clinical review.
If ADHD medication is clinically appropriate, Dr Hashmi may discuss options, risks, benefits, monitoring requirements and any physical health checks needed before prescribing.
Follow-up appointments may be arranged to monitor response, side effects, dose suitability, stability and next steps.
Some patients have already been diagnosed by another psychiatrist or expert and approach Health Private for medication pathway support. In this situation, the existing diagnostic report and evidence need to be reviewed before medication can be considered.
Before medication is initiated following a diagnosis from another provider, Dr Hashmi may need to review the previous diagnostic report, the evidence used to make the diagnosis, any relevant psychometric tools, and the patientβs current clinical presentation. Physical health checks such as blood tests, ECG, blood pressure, height and weight may also be required before prescribing.
Review of the previous ADHD diagnostic report and the evidence used to support the formal diagnosis.
Before medication is considered, Dr Hashmi may request blood tests, ECG and physical observations through the GP or a private provider where needed.
An online appointment with Dr Hashmi to discuss ADHD symptoms, diagnosis, medication options, risks, benefits and management plan.
Additional questionnaires or psychometric tools may be requested where further clarification is clinically useful.
Follow-up reviews may be arranged to monitor medication response, side effects, dose suitability and stability.
Once medication is stable and clinically appropriate, shared care documentation may be prepared for the GP. Acceptance is always subject to GP review and agreement.
ADHD medication is usually reviewed over time to assess whether it is effective, tolerated and clinically suitable. This is especially important before requesting transfer of prescribing responsibilities to a GP under shared care.
Blood tests, ECG, blood pressure, height and weight may be required before medication is started or adjusted. These may be requested through the GP or completed privately where necessary.
Where clinically appropriate, e-prescriptions may be arranged through an online pharmacy service. Prescriptions and medication choices depend on individual assessment and clinical need.
Follow-up appointments may be needed to review response, side effects, dose, stability and suitability before any shared care request is made.
For some patients, once ADHD medication is stable and clinically appropriate, Health Private may prepare documentation to support a shared care request to the GP. This may include clinical review information, diagnosis, medication history, monitoring and treatment recommendations.
GP acceptance is required: shared care is not automatic and cannot be guaranteed.
Medication should usually be stable: GPs may expect evidence of specialist review and stability before considering shared care.
Ongoing reviews may still be needed: GP practices may request six-monthly or annual specialist reviews depending on local arrangements and clinical need.
If a GP does not accept shared care, Health Private can advise on available options. Depending on the clinical situation, patients may continue private review, discuss NHS referral options with their GP, or explore whether a local NHS ADHD service may be available.
Preparing relevant information in advance can reduce delays and help the assessment process run more smoothly.
